I entered into this research project believing that I knew who Mary I's was, a villainous queen who persecuted people for no other reason than their religion. I realized early on that I was very wrong. When I found out that she was abused in her adolescence and that she had a pre-existing mental condition, I realized that someone with this background was more predisposed to violence (this was due to my avid viewing of Criminal Minds). I set out to find her trigger, which was her phantom pregnancy. This project taught me to not take everything I hear at face value, and instead investigate it for myself. It also hit home the phrase "history is written by the victor". In this case the victor were the Protestants, made the devout Catholic Mary, a villain who persecuted them solely because she hated their religion.
